Tubitak Science High School
TYPE Architecture
YEAR: 2022
AREA: 6000 m2
LOCATION: Gebze, Istanbul | Turkey
SCOPE: Concept & Design Development
Tübitak Science High School campus features the new Classroom Building, which we designed as a 6,000 m² structure that includes 20 classrooms, 6 laboratories, and social interaction spaces. As a visionary strategy for the campus's future, a 2,500 m² sports hall was initially integrated into the design. Situated on a sloping terrain between a scenic pond and an existing building connected by a bridge, the new Classroom Building aims to engage with the topography in a way that maximizes the efficiency of outdoor spaces. Defined by terraces, shaded semi-outdoor areas under eaves, and arcades, the dynamic mass weaves the unique privilege of being immersed in nature into the students' daily flow. The facade composition, crafted with GRC and metal panels, timber joinery, and sunshading elements, harmonizes with the visual dialogue established with the landscape, creating a modern architectural language that offers a contemporary research and learning ecosystem.
